It's Turkey Time ... ~~ Early 1980s

Dear Shelby,

Received your pretty card & pictures.  Are they wild flowers on your "estate"?  Are you getting things done now that the weather is changing?

Your mom called last night & said they were coming up tomorrow.  I looks like it will be raining by then.  We have had such nice weather.

Ruth is going out to visit her son Dallas, in Arizona after Christmas.

In a few weeks, Christmas will be here.

Did I tell you Nicole had to have another knee operation?  I don't know what the trouble is this time.

You find the nicest stamps.

I bought "The Tiger's Heart" by Lewis Orde.  I am reading "Always & Forever" by Cynthia Freeman.  It is so good.  I read "The Client" & "The Firm" by John Grisham.  They were both excellent.  I started watching "J.F.K." on tv.

Well, I must get going as I must get to the store.  Take care of yourself & tell Jack to do the same.  Love to you both.

Love Always,

Grandma

Poinsettia ~~ September 2019

I've had this poinsettia for 3 years which is a record for me!  Usually they don't last long after Christmas but this one has held on and thrived.  I've brought it back inside about 2 weeks and it's beginning to get some red leaves.

So True!

Thinking Of You With Love ~~ Thanksgiving 1995

Grandma Letter ~~ Postmarked November 9, 1992

Dear Shelby,

I'm with you, I'm glad all of the hoopla about the election is over!

I had to go for blood work this morning.  It was 24F degrees.

My eyes seem to be okay.  I took a periphery test (side vision).  My trip to Dr. Shore was last Friday.  He seems to think I am okay.  My blood pressure & weight are the same.

I'll probably go to Donna's for Thanksgiving.  I really don't see her too much, usually at church.

Ruth's daughter that lives in Tacoma is here with her husband.  Her son Ray (her youngest) is here for a week too.  He lives in Oklahoma.  Ray is stay staying at Becky's.

I must get to the bank today & also the library.

I guess your Mom will be up this weekend.  I hope the weather stays nice.

I took up another pair of pants last week.  All of my slacks are too big.  I ripped up an old pair that used to fit & use that for a pattern.

Well hon, as there really isn't any news here, I better get going & get my things done.

Write when you can.  Take care.

Love always,

Grandma

Love to Jack!

Souvenir Hand Mirror ~~ New York City ~~ 1960s

Mom brought this souvenir plastic hand mirror back from one of her and Grandma's trips to New York City in the 1960s.  I kept it on my dresser for years.  Eventually the handle broke off and the lettering has faded some but otherwise it's still fine!  It lives in a dresser drawer these days.
