Grandma Letter ~~ Postmarked September 3, 1992

I received your letter & was glad to hear from you.  I was so happy to see all of you.  It had been a long time.

The cat scan was negative.  He said before I had it done that it might be arthritis so I guess that is what it is.

My leg is about the way it was when I bumped it.  The knot is still there & now, at my ankle I have a black & blue mark from around the back of my leg to the middle of my foot.  It is about an inch wide.  I went to Dr. Shore & asked him about it (2 weeks after)  & he said it will be another two weeks before it starts going away.  It was the bone below my knee and the bruise is from the bump as it had no where else to go.  It drained down to my ankle.  I'm just afraid I will bump it again.

The fair is here this week.  It is only 2 blocks away.  Security is tight around here.

I started reading "Cape Cod" but after several chapters of it, I just couldn't keep up with it.

I must get this letter down to the box, so write soon & love to you both.  Take care.

Love always,

Grandma

Dear Shelby,

Thanks for the nice letter.  Too bad you could not have been here this weekend.  Your Mom & I went to the Round Table.  We remembered when you ordered the lasagna.  I started to get it but wound up with combination seafood.  We had an old fashioned cocktail.  Sure was good.

I didn't see any of the movies you mentioned in your letter, at least I don't remember.  I was movie crazy in the 1920s.  I do remember the silent films.  They always had a piano player in the front of the theater & especially in a western when the Indians were chasing the cowboys - the piano player almost went crazy, he played so fast!  Remember, I was born in 1910 so I did see a lot of silents.  I hope you see "Tess of the Storm Country" & "Orphans in the Storm".  Will you see any of Charlie Chaplin's films?

I did send "The Last Enchantment" back by your mom.  You may keep it.

Better let me know what you want for Xmas.  It will be here sooner than you think.

Write when you can.

Love always,

Grandma

P.S.  I got the afghan for Sue started.  I go to the Danbury, CT fair on Oct. 8th.

What a dreary day!  I wanted to go to Moore's (craft shop) for a few things but it looks like it will pour any minute o I changed my mind.

You know I would gladly make a picture for you or anything, just ask!  Did you see the one I made for your mom and also her new afghan?

Did your Mom give you the cookies?  I just gave her the container & didn't say what to do with them.  I thought they stayed in good shape.  I was eating on them too.

I must get something done for my hearing.  I can tell it is not like it used to be but what can you expect at almost 86!  I told Ruth yesterday, my legs are giving me trouble & my heart acts up but as long as my mind stays sharp, I'm happy.

I was amazed last night that not one of the 3 players on Jeopardy didn't know that Alaska was the territory we paid 7 M  for from Russia!  All three said Louisiana Purchase.

I didn't start my afghan yet.  I need another size needle.  I'll have to buy one.  I finished Ruth's picture this week & wouldn't you know she brought me 4 more shirts from Fred to shorten the sleeves.  And I thought she was my friend!!

She made Shoo Fly pies & brought me 1/2 of one.  Are they good!  They are almost 2" thick.

I didn't send the Christmas cactus back with your mom because they didn't have any more room in the car.

I am reading "The Plains of Passage" by Jean M. Auel.  A lady on the 2nd floor has several and I have read all now but "The Mammoth Hunter".  It is all about the "Ice Age".  They are good!

Well, I better get this done and in the mail, so take care & give my love to Jack.  Write soon.

Love always,
Grandma

P.S.  I love your address stickers.
