Dear Shelby,

Sorry I didn't answer your letter sooner, but I was waiting to find out more about Mrs. Wallace.  Her niece was in Bermuda & I didn't believe half of what Mrs. Wallace said.

She came home Friday.  The doctors wanted her to go to a nursing home for 2 weeks to get her strength back as she hadn't been eating or drinking orally for 4 weeks.  She flatly refused to go.  So, Bunny, her niece, said okay, bring her home, she says she can do it so let her try.  I think by this time Bunny was losing  patience with her.  She was a terrible patient.  She looks bad, she lost so much weight. The nurses will be in to check on her and also a homemaker to make sure everything is okay.  I look in on her several times a day.

Harold is the same, good one day and bad the next.  Luckily, Ruth is in good shape.

It is very cold here.  I could have used flannel sheets last night.  It was only 55F in the Poconos yesterday afternoon!  The low predicted for the week is in the 40s and the highs in the low 60s.  You wouldn't know it was summertime around here.

I bought 2 cantaloupes last week for 79 cents each!  And they were delicious!  I got a jar of "recipe sauces"  -- I got the stroganoff.  I'll use chicken.  It sounds good.  They also have a cacciatore I must try.

How are the flowers doing?  I hope I will be able to come down shortly.  I am going to check on the railroad today.  Amtrak comes right into Petersburg & leaves from Philly.  I think I can get a bus to 30th Street Station.  I would enjoy that and then your Mom & Dad would bring me home.  Ruth did that when she went to Georgia to see her granddaughter during Desert Sand or whatever it's called, because Lisa's husband was over there.

That was a cute clipping you sent.  Ruth and I both enjoyed it.  Well hon, not much news here so let me hear from you when you get a chance.

Love always,

Grandma

Dear Shelby,

Sorry I didn't answer your letter sooner but I was really busy last week.

The exterminator came last week & he did the apartments on our side of the building (north) on our floor.  We had to take everything out of the closets & cabinets.  Try finding somewhere to put all that stuff.  I had dishes, pots & pans etc. in chairs, on the floor, you name it!  Then I had to wash all my dishes before I put them back in the cabinets.  I hadn't used some for quite some time.  I was really tired after all that.

My ankle is better, still swollen a bit though.

My weight stayed the same when I went to Dr. Shore - 119 lbs.

I'm glad you're getting ready to get an estimate for your house.  I'm sure you can't wait for them to get started on it.

I hope Jack enjoyed his birthday.

It was a nasty weekend here.  We had bad storms last night.

I'm sending you a picture of the stocking I'm making for Tara.  I've finished all but the name & spray at the top.  It is lovely.  So much back stitching.

Ruth is leaving for Oklahoma Tuesday for two weeks.  I'll miss her.

Well hon, not much news here so write when you can & take care.

Love always,

Grandma
