Dear Shelby,

Glad to hear from you.  I was born on a Thursday like you.  Your mom was born on Sunday evening at 6:50 PM.

I didn't see the needlepoint kit in the catalog.  I never did much needlepoint.

It is 100F here today and believe me, I'm staying inside.

I didn't do anything on the 4th.  They had fireworks at the stadium.  About 20,000 people were there & about that many in the grass around the lake & in the park.

We need rain so badly - the grass is all yellow.

I saw "King Solomon's Mines" several times and I always enjoyed it.  

Well hon, not much news so let me hear from you.

She wrote:

Dear Shelby,

Thanks for the nice letter.

Yes, the 4th was nice, but noisy!  They had fireworks down at the stadium.  Everybody had their lawn chairs out in the driveway to see them.

Bunny invited me over for a cookout.  They are leaving today to go to the beach for a month.  Each week, one of their children comes down to spend the week with them.  Last year she brought me a big carton of clam chowder from a fish house.

Tara had a girl & she named her Alicia Marie.  I haven't seen her yet.  Donna's father had lived in Saylors Lake, but he sold it after he married again & they lived in Easton.

Start some shoots from seed from your Rose of Sharon bush.  You can dig up some young plants from under the bush that started from seeds dropped down.  That's how I did it.  I even took seed from the bloom when they withered & put them in a small container.  They will grow.

Do you have many blueberry bushes?  I love them.

I hope you do well in your First Aid class.

Harold came home from the hospital Tuesday.  Ruth called this morning.  He is very sick again.  They have him 2 pints of blood when he was there.  Nothing stays down.  I feel so sorry for Ruth.  She is a bundle of nerves.

I must go get my hair cut this coming week.  It has been so hot & just looks awful.
