Grandma Letter ~~ Postmarked October 21, 1980

She wrote:

Dear Shelby,

Thanks for the nice letter.

Your trip to South Boston must have been something.  My remembrance of South Boston is a terrible sandwich I got there at the bus terminal.  It was during the war & I was going to Newport News (from Danville) before your Grandpa sailed to the Mediterranian Sea.  It just happened he was torpedoed on that trip coming back.

I'm sure you are enjoying your old movies.  There are a couple I want to see here, "The Great Santini" and "Hopscotch".

Do you have the book "Centennial"?  I know you read it.  I was wondering if I would like it.

Ruth and I were out to Reading yesterday.  I got Esther's robe.  Now I must wrap and mail it.

Did you write to Tess yet?  She didn't say anything.  I hope you will.  I told her you would write her a thank you note for the toaster oven.

It is cold out and windy.  My yard is covered in leaves.

Well hon, write soon & let me know how you are doing.

Love always,
Grandma
