Gracie - October 2012

Field Blossoms

This pretty floral card from Mildred was sent to me at college in the early 1980s.  She writes inside:

"This will be a short one so I can get it to the mailman.  Take care of yourself and I'll talk to you when you come back or maybe sooner?  My love always, Mildred"

I don't know if this notecard was accompanied by a goodie box or not but it sounds like I had one foot out the door heading on a college holiday break.  Thank you for all the treats, Mildred!

This Thanksgiving Day Dance Symbolizes Our Appreciation For All Things Good!

Grandma sent me this card in either the late 1970s or early 1980s while I was at college.  She writes inside:

"I hope you get this before you go home for the holiday!  I hear you are not happy your Mom isn't going to fix a big dinner.  Well, just think, we can make up for it at Xmas.  I've been buying up a few things for cookies.

I think it is a grand idea, the Library Science.  Are you going to pursue the French?

I just got back from the farmer's market.  I like to get my fruit & veg. from there.  I never pass the Amish stand with the cheese cake that I don't think of you.  Well hon, write when you can.

Your ever loving,  Grandma"

I don't remember the circumstances that lead to my mother not wanting to fix her usual Thanksgiving dinner but I don't remember not having one!  It's good to know someone thinks of me when they see cheese cake!!  Ha ha ... could be worse!  I loved the farmer's market that my grandmother frequented ... it's huge and has a little of everything, not just fruits & veggies.  It always has baked goods, crafts, etc and was/is in a huge building in town.

And I do love a good Peanuts card!

Happy Halloween!

So True!

There is no season when such pleasant
and sunny spots may be lighted on,
and produce so pleasant an effect on the feeling,
as now in October.

Petunia - October 2012

Boothill Graveyard, Tombstone, Arizona

This postcard of Boothill Graveyard in Tombstone, Arizona was sent to me by my mother in 1982 while they were on one of their roadtrips west.  She writes:

"We went to Tombstone today.  Heading for El Paso tomorrow.  The weather is nice but very windy.  We picked olives from a tree in a shopping center in Tucson.  See you soon."

Sounds like they were having a great time!  The postcard was postmarked from Willcox, Arizona and has a 13 cent stamp of Crazy Horse.

Sweet Potato Pie

So True!

Wild blueberry jam spread over hot toast on a frosty morning - a summer memory splashed against the coming winter's chill.

Pumpkin Spice Muffins

Scare Up Some Fun!

This adorable and not so scary black cat Halloween card has such a vintage look about it even though Katherine sent it to me just last year!  I love the simple design and I have a soft spot for black cats.  I wish card manufacturers would reprint some of their vintage designs from bygone years and sell them along with their modern prints.  I bet they would have great appeal and sell like hotcakes!  I'm sure the greeting card industry appreciates my free advice ... ha ha!  At any rate, this is a great card!
