Merry Christmas!

Dear Shelby,

Thanks again for all the nice things.  I also received a notice from Ladies Home Journal that you renewed the subscription.  Thanks!

I'm glad you enjoyed the cookies.  I would have made more but time ran out.

I can't imagine where my letter went.  We have our own mail box here in the building & it goes straight to the post office.

I'm glad you were happy with your gifts.  I just couldn't get out & buy for everyone.  It was too much last year but I did it ~~ but no more!

Ruth & Harold took me to Findleys, a nice place across town.  There were a lot of Christmas parties going on at the time.

Donna & her family gave me a lovely necklace.  It is a version of "Mother & Child".  Also a beautiful music box with the Nativity scene.  The details are beautiful.  The figure was done in Italy & when you shake it, it has glitter in it instead of snow.

I am reading "The Prince of Tides".  Ruth wants me to go with her to see the movie.

Donna had me over for Christmas dinner.  Her dad & step-mother were there.  Her family is always so nice to me.  I used to go up in the Poconos almost every week with Donna to their home.  I was always invited back.

My eye operation was a success.  I am so glad I had it done.  I must get new glasses in January.

Well hon, I'm running out of space so take care & write.

Love always,
Grandma

Love to Jack.  Hope he enjoyed all the Christmas goodies.

Happy Holidays

Poinsettia From Last Christmas ~~ November 2018

I bought 4 poinsettias last Christmas and 3 of them perished after the holidays except for this one.  It spent the spring and summer on the porch and thrived.  It's still thriving after coming back inside to winter although it hasn't turned red again.  Still pretty and healthy though!

Zalig Kerstfeest (Merry Christmas) ~~ 1980s

Grandma Letter ~~ Postmarked December 13, 1988

Dear Shelby,

I thought this was such a cute card I'd use it instead of regular paper.

It is very cold here - down to two degrees this a.m.  Snow predicted for tomorrow.

I finished my sweater and the "Gone With the Wind" picture & am at loose ends.  I have a summer sweater I want to start.

Your Mom said you would be over on Wednesday when I come down.  It will be so good to see you & Jack.

I made a batch of cookie dough yesterday & put it in the freezer.  It is rolled into logs & frozen instead of rolling it and you just slice it.  It is a bland sort of cookie but I am going to melt chocolate & make a sandwich of it.  Should be good.  Your Mom said she is sending me a couple of recipes.  I went from church yesterday & got a few supplies I needed for cookies.  I have such a load of "stuff" - I mean the luggage is taking up so much room, I hope I can get it all in the car, plus all the cookies.

Yesterday, I addressed cards.  It takes 20 for this floor.  We just slip them under each other's door.

Well hon, I better close now, so write when you can .  Hope to see you soon.

Love Always,

Grandma
