Grandma Letter ~~ March 1992

The note card art is noted on the back as "Monet Working in His Floating Studio at Argenteuil" painted by Edouard Manet.

She writes:

Dear Shelby,

Thanks for the nice letter.  My pen is acting up!

We have had very nice weather up to now, but it is very cold & the wind is bad.

My little violet that I bought at the Philly flower show never did much.

Mr. Wallace is still in the hospital.  He is having trouble walking.  His right side is paralyzed.  She can't bring him home if he can't walk. She is afraid he may have to go into a nursing home.

Harold's eye is much better since the laser.

Ruth has 7 grandchildren & 1 great-grandchild (another 2 on the way!).  Her sons never married.  Yes, the crib blanket was very pretty.  She wants me to make another one, her granddaughter in Georgia called last week & said she is pregnant.  I like doing things like that. I took up several things yesterday that were too big.

Your mom says she is expecting you this weekend.  She says she enjoys your visits.  She wants to come up here soon.

It snowed here Wednesday.  I had 3 prescriptions filled this week - $99.00!!  That is only a month's supply of each.  Lucky they didn't all run out at the same time.

Well hon, not much news here so let me hear from  you when you have time.

Love always,

Grandma

Love to Jack.

Shelby's Room Plaque ~~ 1970s

My mother bought this little personalized name plaque from a kiosk at the old Walnut Mall in Petersburg back in the 1970s.  It was on my bedroom door and they took it with them when they moved in 1980 (the plaque not the door!).  I found it in a shoebox with other bits and bobs.

Petunia ~~ April 2016

Me (Right) ~~ Providence, RI ~~ Summer 1967

I used to play with the little girl who lived next door to Grandpa & Mildred in Providence.  She was my age and the pool was in her yard.  I love all of the cute floats ~~~ were we liable to drown in that little pool?? The family next door were the Motts ~~~ I remember that clearly because it made me think of apple juice.  I'm somewhat vaguer on her first name but I think it may have been Andrea.  Fun times!

Have You Seen Me? ~~ 1991

I found this flyer pertaining to the disappearance of Timothy Wiltsey at my parents' house and being used as a bookmark in a cookbook. These flyers used to come in the mail routinely and I seem to remember seeing them tucked into newspapers at times.  I was curious if this boy had ever been found so I did a Google search.  Sadly his remains were discovered a year after his disappearance and his mother has been charged with his death after 23 years!

Here's the rest of the story ~~~~~> Click here!

Better 'n Anything! ~~ 1974

She wrote inside:

I hope you are lots better.  I know you are really trying because just think you will soon be going home.

Tell all the nurses that I know hello & to take good care of you ~~ Jeanne, Lynn & Debbie.

Tell Mama to take care of herself too.

Love,

Grandma
