Get Well Soon ~~ March 1994

Grandma Letter ~~ Postmarked February 24, 1993

Dear Shelby

Thanks for the beautiful card & Ruth says (and I quote) "She is a real sweetheart."  She was thrilled to get your card & I might say, some of her own grandchildren didn't send her one.

It is bitter cold outside.  The wind chill factor makes it worse.

We had 5 1/2" of snow Sunday & then it sleeted on top of that.  Ruth cleaned my car off ... she always does.

Did your mom tell you I made some candy & sent it to you both.  I mailed it to her because there is someone there during the day.  Next time you go over, you can get it.  I sent it UPS.

Mrs. Wallace is having her eye operation on Friday.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Maymont Flower & Garden Show.  I went to Philly to the flower show one year & was it packed.  It was beautiful though.  The next year I went to New York to the Citicorp Building for their show.  That was really something to see.

No, I didn't see "Dances With Wolves".  They had "Sister Act" upstairs a couple weeks ago.  It was great.  On Friday, they are having Victor Borge in his comedy & piano video.  I think I would like to see it.  He is so good.

I bought a pint of Irish coffee cream in the grocery department at Giant.  They also had amaretto.  It is so good in your coffee.  You use it like cream.  It is in the milk section.

I have on the shirt you sent me & it sure looks & feels good.  It is so cold out & my apartment just doesn't get as warm as it should be.

Well hon, I better close & you take care & write when you can.

Love always,

Grandma

For Baby's First Valentine's Day ~~ 1961

Grandma Letter ~~ Postmarked February 24, 1996

Dear Shelby,

Thanks for the nice card.  The view is lovely.  Also, the Valentine card!  Thank you!

It is gray and dreary outside.  Very foggy.  It is not too cold.  My car needs a bath.  It looks terrible.  The dark colored cars are all white from the mess on the streets.  They use so much salt!

I just came back from the Farmer's Market.  I needed fruit & fresh veggies.

After lunch, I am going out to Kay & get my hair cut.  It grows so fast & is so thick.

I am glad your tub is in its "final resting place".  It sounds like they are really getting it done.  I hope the weather gets nice.  You have a lot of yard work to do, I'm sure.

I have just read John Grisham's "The Rain Maker".  It has a surprise ending.  It was up in our library last week when I took one back & I noticed it & held on to it.  I guess it just came out in paper back.  Someone bought it, read it & put it upstairs.  I enjoyed it.

I have the needlework about 8/10ths finished.

I want to watch "Rich Man, Poor Man" on Sunday night.  I saw it years ago & read the book.  I also have "Begger Man, Thief".

Well, I must get a move on & get out to the beauty parlor.  So write when you can & love to you both.  Take care.

Love always,

Grandma

P.S. I love your stamp.  I remember seeing electric cars like that when I was little.
