Mom Letter ~~ Fall 1980

She wrote:

Dear Shelby,

We made it back home alright. I'm sorry it turned out to be such a nasty day.  We went straight to Chesterfield Mall, ate and went on home.  Dad was really hurting.  He didn't do anything yesterday.

I hope you told the Zollmans and Katherine that we were sorry we missed them.

I cleaned good yesterday and Dad had a fire in the fireplace (where else!).  It was nice.  I washed my raincoat and all of that stain came out.

Well Honey, I must get ready for work.  But I do have next Thursday off ~~ Election Day.

Did the pants fit alright?  Be good and study.  Write often.

Love,

Mom

P.S.  I did enjoy my lunch and even the walk back.

Petunia & Gracie ~~ May 2016

Stratford Inn Matchbox ~~ 1990s

Grandpa would always stay at the Stratford Inn when he was visiting Danville before moving back in the early 1970s.  We stayed there on a visit sometime around 1995 and the inn and restaurant were very nice.  Good food!  I think they underwent some major renovations in the last few years and are back open for business.

Navigator's Den Matchbook ~~ Late 1960s

The Navigator's Den was a very nice seafood restaurant that overlooked the Appomattox River in Hopewell.  My parents used to go back in the late 1960s and early 1970s for dinner and a movie afterwards.  From what I could gather online, the restaurant was open until around 2000 and another restaurant has opened in the same building.
